Should I do Self-Portrait with Guitar, or Piedmont Ave Lamp Post?

Studies for my next painting.

April 12, 2013 in Art

I am working up my next painting. This is a modified version of an older painting I did about 20 years ago combined with another painting I did in 2010.

Here are the two paintings I am merging into one new piece. Who better to steal from than my past self?

This is a demented family portrait.

It’s about 50% complete… as far as I know.

Recycled Art – Improving Discarded Paintings

November 6, 2012 in Art

So walking to get some coffee today I came across this large framed painting on the curb. It was still there when I came back so I brought it home. There was a 5 inch rip in the bottom right hand side of the canvas, which took a few minutes to repair with some acrylic medium.

Here is the painting as I found it. Standard 70’s deco furniture store garbage.

Trashed painting

I took the photo and put it in photo shop to play with some ideas and came up with a concept that I felt improved greatly on the original work…

Happy with the concept, I threw it on the easel and got to work, here is a midway point showing progress.

And after a days work, here is the completed work, much improved I think you will agree.

Now I just have to find somewhere to hang it…
